Giants Roundup: Thank Barry It’s Friday

  • The Giants continue to insist on being thoroughly mediocre as they lost last night to the purple-uniformed Colorado Rockies, 5-3. Never lose to team with purple as their color, kids. [ESPN]
  • In a twist of irony, the Rockies have banned alcoholic beverages from the clubhouses at Coors Field. [Rox Notes … really]
  • Just about every scout is confident that Tim Lincecum (who is starting tonight, by the way) is in the majors to stay and will be a success soon enough. That’s nice. [ESPN]
  • … although Keith Law of Scouts, Inc believes that Lincecum’s role as a closer makes perfect sense, with his two-pitch repertoire and “unusual” delivery that tends to break down as the game progresses. [ESPN Insider]
  • Speaking of staying in the majors, Todd Linden will not be. You know you’re bad when there are only two other outfielders on the team and the game of baseball requires three to be present at one time, yet you still get kicked off the team because you suck. [SFGate]
  • Curt Schilling apologized for his earlier remarks about Barry Bonds, yet somehow his reluctance to stand by his (stupid) opinions makes him seem like even more of a douchebag. [Newsday]
  • Rickey Henderson, who played 25 years in the big leagues, attended a Giants-Mets game earlier this week. The Oakland native caught a foul ball. Why is this news? Because he then refused to give it to the kid sitting next to him: “Everybody was asking me for the ball … I said, ‘You’re not getting this ball. I always wanted to get a foul ball. This one’s going on a shelf at home.” You stay classy, Rickey. [The FanHouse]
  • Have you ever wondered what happens when baseball goes … EXTREME? [Deadspin]
