In a Giants rotation where most–if not all–the attention centers around 70-gabillion-dollar man Barry Zito and two hard-throwing righties (Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum), Matt Morris has continued to be the quiet star. Last night, Morris salvaged the weekend in Oakland, as the Giants avoided a three-game sweep. Morris (5-1) was excellent: a complete game two-hitter. He repeatedly started the A’s hitters off with curves. Pedro Feliz made some nice plays in the field, and the offense even managed to score multiple runs.
Morris has played the role of losing streak stopper this year, much like Jason Schmidt did two years ago. However, the Giants still dropped two of three to their depleted cross-bay rivals, who are just happy to stay above water during their injury-plagued season.
