Baseball Players’ Entrance Songs: Sal Fasano IS A Voodoo Child And David Eckstein Likes Luda

Wikipedia has a nice little compilation of entrance songs. A large number of players have adopted Mims’ “This is why I’m hot” as their anthem, including Alex Rodriguez, Jose Reyes and Gary Sheffield. A handful of players, like Moises Alou and Garrett Anderson, specifically don’t want any music playing.

For some, it’s easy to see the correlation between player and song. For example:http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/PHOTOFILE/AADC001~Benny-Agbayani-Studio-Portrait-Photofile-Posters.jpg

  • Benny Agbayani (pictured, right): “Bennie and the Jets”, Elton John
  • Roger Clemens: “Rocket Man”, Elton John
  • Rich Aurilia and Paul Lo Duca (Brooklyn natives): “No Sleep till Brooklyn”, Beastie Boys
  • Mike Myers: Theme from Halloween
  • David Ortiz: “Big Poppa”, Notorious B.I.G.
  • Scott Rolen: “Rollin'”, Limp Bizkit

Closers’ songs are the ultimate cool and for Giants fans, nothing beats hearing “Smoke on the Water.” And nothing causes cringes like “Big Pimpin.”

  • Robb Nen: “Smoke on the Water”, Deep Purple
  • Armando Benitez (pictured, right): “Big Pimpin'”, Jay-Z
  • https://i2.wp.com/www.bleedingblackandorange.com/2006newsimg/0727.JPGJohn Franco: “Johnny B. Goode”, Chuck Berry
  • Eric Gagne: “Welcome to the Jungle”, Guns N’ Roses
  • Dennis Eckersley and Goose Gossage: “Bad to the Bone”, George Thorogood
  • Trevor Hoffman: “Hell’s Bells”, AC/DC
  • Jonathan Papelbon: “I’m Shippin’ Up To Boston”, Dropkick Murphys
  • Mariano Rivera and Billy Wagner: “Enter Sandman”, Metallica
  • Mitch Williams and Rick Vaughn: “Wild Thing”, The Troggs

And then, there are the odd, somewhat confusingly hilarious matches:

  • Adrian Beltre: “Only You”, Ashanti
  • Barry Bonds: “Next Episode”, Dr. Dre
  • Damion Easley: “Smack That”, Akonhttp://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/PHO/AAGX023_8x10-2006StudioPlus~David-Eckstein-Posters.jpg
  • David Eckstein (pictured, right): “Number One Spot”, Ludacris
  • Sal Fasano (pictured above, with moustache): “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”, Jimi Hendrix Experience
  • Jason Giambi: Theme from World Championship Wrestling
  • Mark Grudzielanek: “Lonely No More”, Rob Thomas (as we stifle a giggle)
  • Shigetoshi Hasegawa: “Gettin’ Jiggy With It”, Will Smith (The Fresh Prince is big in Japan)
  • Richie Sexson: “You Sexy Thing”, Hot Chocolate
  • Chien-Ming Wang: “Lets Get it Started”, Black Eyed Peas (never heard that song)
